♣️  Limping In: Sneaky Trap or Just a Weak Hand in Disguise?

Solvers approve limping in more spots than most players think — SB vs BB in cash games being one of them.

So why does limping still carry such a bad reputation at the table?

Where it actually gets complicated:

  • Open-limping and over-limping aren't the same decision — one commits first, the other joins a pot already built with better odds
  • Limp-trapping only works against opponents who actually raise limpers, otherwise you just gave up initiative for nothing
  • Short-stacked in a tournament, limping can be a deliberate ICM play, not a mistake
  • The same limp reads completely differently depending on position, stack depth, and who's already in the pot

The reputation limping has probably comes from how often it's misused, not from the action itself being wrong.
