CGI gives them scale and movement no physical build could ever pull off — creatures the size of buildings, worlds that don't exist anywhere on Earth. Take A24's Backrooms — the antagonist, Cap'n Clark, was played by a 7'7" actor in a physical suit, not rendered. A pretty recent example of practical presence still winning over CGI, even in an era where CGI is usually the default.
